Microsoft has confirmed it will release FY2026 fourth-quarter earnings after the close of US trading on July 29, 2026, with the communication theme of this earnings release being 'Building an AI Future Responsibly.' As of the last trading day before the release, the stock was around $389.10, with a market cap of about $2.89 trillion, making it the world's second-largest listed company.

Three Key Focal Points

This earnings report is widely seen as a key reading on whether AI capex among the major tech companies is 'overheating.' The market is focused on three metrics: Azure's year-over-year growth rate, the absolute value of AI-related capex, and management's guidance direction for fiscal 2027 capex.

"Every dollar of AI capex has to deliver real return within two to three years — that is the market's standard now." — Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, in a public comment.

Azure: Growth Engine or Narrative Fatigue?

Azure has held year-over-year growth in the 30% range for the past eight quarters, and is the core source of Microsoft's valuation premium. FY26 Q3 Azure growth briefly dipped, triggering market questions about the monetization pace of AI workloads. The Q4 report needs to answer: Is the contribution share of AI services to Azure's incremental revenue continuing to expand?

AI Capex: Cadence and Return

Microsoft's full-year FY26 capex is expected to exceed $80 billion, the vast majority of which is going to GPUs, networking, and data-center expansion. Management needs to clarify two questions on the Q4 call: Will capex continue to rise year over year? And is the expected payback horizon for these investments 18 months or 36 months?

Spillover to the Semiconductor Sector

Microsoft's FY26 Q4 capex number will also transmit directly to the upstream hardware sector — NVIDIA, AMD, SK Hynix, and Samsung's HBM business are all highly sensitive to hyperscaler capex. With Kospi plunging on the day on Samsung's profit warning, Microsoft's earnings provide a counterbalancing 'signal' on the other side.

Timing

The FY26 Q4 earnings will be released after the US market close on July 29 Eastern Time (early morning of July 30 Beijing Time), with CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood on the call. Another key variable investors are watching is the company's latest wording on its OpenAI investment and compute commitments.
