Procore Technologies has agreed to acquire DroneDeploy, the construction-focused drone mapping and visual intelligence platform, for $845 million, the Robot Report and TechCrunch reported. The deal is the largest construction-tech acquisition of the year and a marker of how the construction industry is finally digitizing.

The Deal

Procore will integrate DroneDeploy's visual intelligence technology to link the digital world with physical construction sites. DroneDeploy's drone-captured imagery, 3D models, and progress-tracking tools will be combined with Procore's project management platform, giving construction teams a single source of truth for what's happening on site. The combined entity will be the largest construction-tech platform in North America by revenue.

"Procore will integrate DroneDeploy's visual intelligence technology to link the digital world with physical construction sites," TechCrunch wrote.

Why It Matters

Construction has lagged other industries in digitization for decades. The Procore/DroneDeploy combination is the most ambitious attempt yet to change that, by fusing project-management software with always-on visual intelligence. If successful, the combined platform could compress project schedules, reduce rework, and finally bring construction data into the same analytics stack as the rest of the enterprise.
