Spider-Man: Brand New Day came out swinging at the box office on the weekend, taking in a Hulk-sized $927 million at the global box office, GameSpot reported on August 3. In the US, the domestic box office take clocked in at an impressive $355 million, working out to 38.3% of the global total.
The Numbers
The $927 million global opening is the second-biggest worldwide opening weekend of all time, behind only Avengers: Endgame's $1.2 billion in 2019. It is also the largest opening for a Spider-Man solo film, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home's $587 million. The strong showing is a major boost for Disney, which has been working to stabilize its theatrical business.

Why It Worked
Three factors drove the result. First, the cast - including several younger actors who had built large social-media followings - drew a younger demographic. Second, the marketing campaign was tightly focused on a single emotional hook, which generated strong word-of-mouth. Third, the film opened in a relatively quiet August window, with limited competition for several weeks.
What's Next
The film is expected to gross more than $1.5 billion globally over its run. Disney is now positioning Avengers: Doomsday - the next big Marvel release - for May 2027, with Brand New Day as a stepping stone. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will also get a major expansion on the gaming side, with Sony expected to announce new Spider-Man game content in the coming weeks.
