Procore Technologies Acquires DroneDeploy for $845M

Procore Technologies has agreed to acquire DroneDeploy for $845 million, the Robot Report reported on July 31. DroneDeploy is a leading construction-focused drone mapping and visual intelligence platform, and the deal is the largest construction-tech acquisition of the year.

What DroneDeploy Does

DroneDeploy's platform turns drone imagery into structured site intelligence. Autonomous drone flights over a job site capture high-resolution images; cloud-based photogrammetry builds a 3D model of the site; AI compares the model to design plans and flags deviations, missed milestones, and safety hazards. The platform is used by roughly 5,000 mid-market and enterprise general contractors.

"Procore will integrate DroneDeploy's visual intelligence technology to link the digital world with physical construction sites," the Robot Report wrote.

What the Deal Means

The acquisition combines the dominant project-management platform in North American construction with the leading visual intelligence platform. The integrated product will let construction teams see both contract status and visual progress in a single dashboard. Procore plans to operate DroneDeploy as a standalone product for at least 18 months while integrating the platforms.

Why Construction Tech Is Heating Up

The deal is the largest construction-tech acquisition since Autodesk's $1 billion PlanGrid purchase in 2018. It signals that construction is finally digitizing, driven by labor shortages, AI capability, and general-contractor mandates for digital workflows. Expect more M&A in the category in the next 18 months.
