Microsoft kicked off a major marketing campaign for Gears of War E-Day on August 1 with a lengthy advertisement aired during WWE SummerSlam, featuring The Bloodline wrestling stable, gaming press reported. The Xbox-exclusive prequel — set during the franchise's defining Emergence Day — is slated for release in October 2026, and the SummerSlam slot marks its first big mainstream media buy.
Why SummerSlam
The ad placement pairs one of Xbox's most recognizable franchises with WWE's biggest summer event, an audience Microsoft has courted since acquiring Activision Blizzard. The Bloodline — one of professional wrestling's most popular acts — gives the spot built-in crossover appeal, and the teaser confirms E-Day will lean into the horror-tinged atmosphere of the original trilogy's opening hours.
For Microsoft, the push signals that E-Day — the first mainline Gears game since 2019 — will be a centerpiece of its holiday lineup alongside its other fall releases.
A Packed Fall
E-Day arrives in a crowded autumn window: Beast of Reincarnation launched August 4, Mortal Shell 2 and Star Wars: Zero Company are due later in August, and a slate of expansions including Mafia: The Old Country's Man of Honor and STALKER 2's Cost of Hope round out the season. The SummerSlam buy also continues Xbox's pattern of pairing its biggest exclusives with marquee live events.
