Steam Teraleak: 12 Terabytes of Games and Unreleased Betas From 2003 to 2013 Leak Online

A vast collection of games, betas, and prototypes uploaded to Steam over a decade has leaked online, according to Valve news accounts including Gabe Follower and Scolcer. The leak amounts to roughly 12 to 13 terabytes of data spanning 2003 to 2013, seemingly covering everything published on the platform during that period, including early versions that were never intended for release.

No Hacking, Just Exposure

According to Scolcer, the leak did not come from a hack. The files were reportedly pulled from a site that was publicly accessible, hidden in plain sight with no protection, before Valve switched to a new storage system around 2013. A torrent file is circulating online, and players have begun combing through the data.

Valve's Own Treasures

Early versions of Valve games have already surfaced, including a Portal 2 build with a bullet-time mechanic and cut Cave Johnson dialogue, along with content from Left 4 Dead, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and the cancelled camera-based puzzle game F-Stop. Fans have also found data strings referencing Half-Life 2: Episode 3, the canceled conclusion to the series, including objects like an ice gun.

Third-Party Fallout

The leak is not limited to Valve. A long list of items posted online includes third-party titles such as Sonic 4, Batman: Arkham Asylum beta content, a pre-release build of Dragon Age: Origins, Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines betas, 2007 prototypes of Mirror's Edge, Call of Duty 4 betas, and builds of EA's Spore. Polygon noted the breach affects most major publishers that released on Steam during the decade, and the full contents may take weeks to catalog.
