A 4NE1 Gen 3.5 humanoid robot built by Neura Robotics collapsed on stage during Qualcomm's keynote at Computex 2026 in Taipei this week, in a live-demo failure that went viral. The robot — a 180 cm machine powered by Qualcomm's new Dragonwing IQ10 Robotics Reference Design, offering up to 700 TOPS of on-device AI processing and a 100 kg payload capacity — had walked onstage carrying a tray with the reference design, which a Qualcomm executive retrieved before the robot suddenly lost control and folded to the ground. Stagehands covered it and carried it off, reportedly dropping it once during removal.

Qualcomm: A Designed Response

Qualcomm attributed the collapse to a brief communication glitch during the live demo, and said the robot performed its designed «safe-collapse» sequence — lowering itself to protect people and surroundings — adding that the safety systems «worked as intended» and that live demos involve risk, while the incident provided «valuable real-world data» for improving reliability. Coverage by Yahoo Tech and Interesting Engineering noted the robot briefly raised a fist after falling, as if signaling it was still operational.

Stage-Ready vs. Spec-Ready

The incident highlights a widening gap between humanoid specs and stage-readiness. Reports noted Neura Robotics' 4NE1 reportedly failed to move at all during its Munich debut showcase days after the Taipei collapse, and the Russian AIdol humanoid similarly collapsed face-first during a public demo in November 2025. For an industry racing toward commercial deployment, such episodes underscore that reliability — not capability — is the current bottleneck.
