Hadrian, the advanced manufacturing company building highly automated factories for the US defense and aerospace industry, announced on August 6 that it has raised $1.37 billion in Series D equity financing at a $7.87 billion valuation — more than quadrupling its valuation since January, according to a company release and TechStartups.

Record Defense-Tech Round

The Series D is one of the largest single funding rounds a private defense-manufacturing company has ever completed, and the biggest defense-tech raise of the year so far. The round was co-led by WCM Investment Management, Washington Harbour Partners, Valor Equity Partners, 137 Ventures and Baillie Gifford, with JPMorgan Chase also participating.

Automated Factories for America's Industrial Renewal

The Torrance, California-based company uses AI and automation to run precision-machining factories that produce complex aerospace parts at speed, targeting the structural shortage of US manufacturing capacity exposed by defense programs. Hadrian said the new capital will accelerate factory expansion and its push to rebuild domestic industrial capacity for aerospace and defense supply chains, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The raise adds to a banner period for defense technology startups, as governments scramble to expand production of munitions, drones and aircraft components.
