xAI released Grok 4.6 on Tuesday, a model built on Grok 4.5 with a particular focus on long-running agents and more ambitious interactive and visual work. The company says it stays with complex tasks across many steps — whether researching a topic, analyzing information, working across a codebase, or turning an idea into a polished application.
Where It Runs
Grok 4.6 is available today in Cursor and Grok Build, and through the xAI API and partners including OpenRouter, Vercel and Cloudflare. xAI is offering 2x included usage inside Grok Build and Cursor for the first week to encourage immediate trials. Pricing starts at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, with a fast variant available at twice the price.
The Agentic Push
The release continues xAI's repositioning of Grok from a chat assistant into an infrastructure layer for agentic software development, following the Grok 4.5 launch and the company's expansion of its API footprint. Making the model available natively inside Cursor puts it directly in the market where OpenAI, Anthropic and Google are competing for coding-agent workloads, while the aggressive per-token pricing — below most frontier rivals — targets the same price-performance segment DeepSeek has made central to the model race.
For developers, the 2x usage promotion and the double-priced fast variant create an unusual pricing ladder: teams can trade speed against cost on the same model family without switching providers, a design that mirrors the two-tier strategy the company has applied to consumer subscriptions.
