Halo: Campaign Evolved has sold roughly 1.56 million copies across all platforms in its first eight days on sale — a figure analysts describe as low for the franchise, and one that looks particularly weak on PlayStation, where just 351,000 copies shifted, according to data from Alinea Analytics reported by Wolf's Gaming Blog on August 5.
Platform Breakdown
Of the 1.56 million copies sold, Xbox accounts for about 900,000 — respectable given the game is also on Game Pass — while Steam added 212,000 and PlayStation contributed 351,000, or about 29% of the total (excluding the other platforms' share). For comparison, the recently released ports of Call of Duty's original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 sold a combined 11.2 million copies on PlayStation alone.
A First for the Franchise
Launched July 28 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, Campaign Evolved is the first Halo game to debut on Sony's console — an Unreal Engine 5 remake of the original Combat Evolved with updated visuals, four-player online co-op, and a new three-mission prequel. Circana's Mat Piscatella said the game ranked fourth in daily active users on Xbox launch day, with 8% of active Xbox players launching it, and topped the PlayStation Store best-sellers chart.
Mixed Reviews and a Question for Xbox
Player reviews on Steam sit at "mixed," and player counts have declined steadily — in part because the remake has no multiplayer. With Microsoft having promised that all future Halo games will come to PlayStation, the tepid Sony-side debut raises questions about how much crossover demand actually exists for the series on rival hardware.
